Thanks to all the work across the country on behalf of Marlen Moreno, ICE has granted her deferred action and will allow her to stay another year.
This is a big victory for our movement.
We have stood together and stopped another act of injustice.
But, we cannot keep doing this. We cannot work this hard on a case by case basis.
We must pass the DREAM act. We must protect all of our hardworking youth and make sure this will never happen.
Thank you for saving Marlen, but remember, she will not be last if the DREAM Act does not pass.

I came across something this week that really put a smile on my face.
Like most DREAMers, getting to college is the number one priority. And paying for it comes with the added burden of searching through the thousands of options for scholarships out there to find the few that we are eligible for.
Along the way in my personal search, I signed up for a weekly newsletter of academic and financial advice to all college students. Each week, a different question most college students face is highlighted and answered.

She has no social security number, no legal residency. Without that, she couldn’t get financial aid, take out school loans, or collect her scholarships – Bentley was an impossible dream.
Elizabeth ended up at a community college two hours from her house, where she paid up front...

The Department of Justice announced that it is suing the state of Arizona, on the grounds that the state’s new immigration law illegally intrudes on federal prerogatives. It invokes the legal doctrine of preemption, a concept in the Constitution’s supremacy clause that says federal law supersedes state statutes.
Multiple jurisdictions around the country have enacted resolutions to condemn Arizona’s laws, joined a national boycott of Arizona or instituted travel bans to Arizona. Boston City council has recently voted to condemn Arizona’s laws and multiple organizations in Massachusetts have acted to protest these laws.
The Student Immigrant Movement has been active in condemning Arizona. In...
In early United States history, the individual states were an interesting concept for the founding fathers to implant into their plan for the new Union, separate and independent of the British Royal Empire. In their genius, the forefathers held to the basics of self ruled states while blending the concept of unity by creating the federal government. It was the federal government’s job to decide foreign policy. It was the federal government’s job to maintain the unity between states. It was the federal government’s job to decide on a basic set of laws applicable to all states and to stay away from the from issues to be decided on by the each state. The states, on the other hand, were to concern themselves with matters...
