Do not train children to learning by force and harshness, but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each. -- Plato

The Immigrant Battle: (90 min) E
The Immigration Battle is a workshop that explains the current political and humanitarian situation of the immigrant community in the United States. In this presentation we get to analyze the heads of the anti-immigrant movement and their relationships with other white supremacist groups. Their current victories, including the increased enforcement approach to immigration policies, the New Bedford Raid and all it’s aftermath. This is a very serious workshop that looks at the current humanitarian crisis that the immigrant community is going through.
Immigration History 101 & Intro to Immigrant Rights: To better understand immigration issues today, including the current debates to reform immigration law on a federal and local level, we need to learn more about our country’s complex history with migration. "Immigration History 101" is an interactive workshop developed by the National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. Participants will become familiar with the history of immigration to the United States and how our past and current immigration laws have developed. You will have the opportunity to discuss some of the key issues that intersect with immigration, such as labor, race and globalization. Intro To SIM (90 minutes) W
In this workshop, we bring potential SIM leaders and supporters into understanding the work of the Student Immigrant Movement. We discuss our approach into solving the problems that are affecting immigrant students and how we can organize to change the immigration laws. This workshop is a great opportunity for immigrant students to share their stories and connect with each other. Next Intro to SIM meeting on: Saturday September 27th from 2pm to 3:30pm Relational Building 1 on1s & Self-Interest: (90 min) T How many of you have ever had a relationship? Because organizing is about working with people, we revisit many of our day to day activities, such as meeting new people, but from an analytic perspective: what’s really going on here, why does this work better than that, how can we become more strategically intentional about the relationships we form and can how we best go about forming them? In this workshop we will:
This workshop is open to our leaders and for other organizations that want to improve their relational skills. Leadership & Organizing #1: (1 Day) This training is to open to new SIM members; in this training members and supporters will:
